Brian Banks
Brian Banks started for three years, earning the East Valley Region and Arizona All-State Team honors all three years. He was named the 1989 Arizona Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. Banks was drafted in the 6th round by the Baltimore Orioles, but chose to attend college. Banks attended BYU, where he was named to the NCAA All-American Team. In 1993, Banks was drafted in the 2nd round by the Milwaukee Brewers. Banks was named MVP of the Double-A All Star game in 1995. Called up to the Major Leagues in 1996, playing 4 seasons for the Brewers. In 2000, Banks signed with the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks in Japan and participated in the Japan Series Championship. He with the Florida Marlins 2001-04. In 2003, the Marlins won the World Series. Banks played First Base, Left Field, and Catcher in the Major Leagues. Following retirement from baseball in 2004, Brian returned to school and graduated from Dental school in 2011. [More...]

Tom Freestone was a two-sport athlete at Mesa High school: Football and Wrestling. As a football player, he was named First-string Arizona All-star defensive guard. As a Varsity wrestler, Freestone won the Constellation State Championship for 175lbs in 1955 and became the AIA State Champion in 1956 and earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler trophy. He continued with football at BYU as a right guard and linebacker. Freestone took up weightlifting and placed second in the Tucson Invitational in 1957, second in the Arizona State Weightlifting and South West Regional Championships in 1958. He placed first in the San Pedro Valley State Championship. By 1960, Freestone became a Heavy Weight Division Professional Wrestler for two years. [More...]

Coach Morris became the head girls track coach in 1988. She credits her coaching success to the wonderful athletes she had the pleasure of coaching. Aaron Watkins, member of the Red Mountain golf team, won the team State Championship 3 times and the team Regional Championship 4 times, earning All-State honors twice. During high school, Watkins won four national tournament titles: the Junior Tour Tournament of Champions, the JGAA Spring Classic, the IJGT, and the FCWT. He won the Antigua-Mitt Coggins tournament and was named “Best of the Rest by the Arizona Republic.” Watkins competed for Kansas State University as their team captain. He earned All-Big 12 honors in 2003 and 2004. Watkins posted 2 collegiate victories, holds the KSU records for career rounds played (136) and career tournaments played (49) and is fourth in career stroke average at 74.30. While at KSU he qualified for the PGA Tour. Professionally, Watkins has 2 wins, and has played the Gateway Tour, the Nationwide Tour, and is a member of the PGA Tour. Kristen Campos played in the Junior Worlds in 1998 and 1999 and was a member of the America’s Cup Team in 1999 and 2000. As a member of the Dobson golf team, she earned East Valley All-Region Team honors all 4 years, AIA All-State Team honors all 4 years, and was East Valley Region Individual Champion twice. She won the Texas-Oklahoma Championship in 1998 and participated in the US Girls Junior Championship in 1999. Campos attended Colorado State University where she placed 3rd in the Mountain West Conference Championship and was named to the Mountain West All-Conference team. She earned Mountain West Academic All-Conference team honors and was a National Golf Coaches Association Academic All American Scholar all four years. In 2005 she was named CSU Most Outstanding Senior Scholar Athlete. Campos continues to hold the CSU records as 3rd Best NCAA Tournament Performance in School History, 9th Best Career Stroke Average, 10th Best Single Season Scoring Average, 11th Best Single Season Top 10 Finishes and 11th Best Career Top 10 Finishes. He was named USA Today honorable mention All-American, Blue Chip All-American, All-State team as a linebacker and offensive center, Central Region Defensive Player of the Year, All-East Valley center and linebacker, and MVP of the 1992 State Championship game. During his senior year, McKane had 112 unassisted tackles, 123 assisted tackles, 11 sacks, and 1 interception. He continued his football accolades while playing for the University of Utah. He received multiple “100% Hustle” awards, making key plays in key games. He started as a center and on special teams, earning Player of the Game versus rival BYU. McKane’s love of football did not end on the playing field. McKane coached two seasons with Independence High in Glendale, AZ. He was an assistant defensive line coach at BYU for two years. He coached at Western Illinois University, where his team held opponents to 116.8 rushing yards per game. In 2007 his defensive line led the league with 27 sacks, and ranked among the nation's top 25 teams in six categories. McKane served as the head football coach at Florence High School in AZ before passing away from a heart attack October 8, 2013 at age 38. [More...]
