Question: What programs are offered in Junior High?
Answer: There are two different programs offered in Jr High Athletics.
- Competitive Teams: JHA offers four seasons of competitive teams; boys baseball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls volleyball, wrestling, girls badminton, flag football, boys and girls soccer, girls softball and boys and girls cross country. The cost is $75 per season.
- Skills Camps: In addition to the competitive junior high athletic program, dependent on interest, the junior highs a skills camps will be offered each season for all 7th and 8th graders interested in improving sport specific skills and learning techniques and rules for the sport.
Skills camps will be conducted on campus after school two days per week for 1 hour and 15 minutes. During these 10 sessions, coaches will teach skills, provide drills for practicing technique, and incorporate modified games. On the 6th week, a series of regulation games or a tournament will be scheduled. The cost per student is $55 and includes a tee shirt.
Question: Are there tryouts for Junior High Athletics?
Answer: Yes. There are tryouts for the competitive teams in Junior High Athletics with the exception of wrestling and cross country. Information regarding team size and number of teams can be found here.
Question: When are tryout held?
Answer: Tryouts for each sport will be held the first week of the quarter in which the season is held. Please refer to the sport's web page for exact dates and information regarding registration.
Question: What forms need to be turned in before a student may tryout?
Answer: All students must turn in a registration form prior to participation in any Junior High Athletics tryout or practice.
Question: Do students need to turn in a physical to participate in Junior High Athletics?
Answer: A physical is not required for participation in Junior High Athletics.
Question: When is payment for Junior High Athletics due?
Answer: Payment for the junior high athletic season is due prior to the first athletic contest of the season. School payment deadlines may be set according the the school Athletic Director. Please inquire at your school for payment due date. Failure to pay by the first time will result in a fine being placed on the students account.
Question: Are student grades checked to determine student eligibility?
Answer: Yes. Grades are checked at progress report time. A student who is failing a class is ineligible and will not be able to participate for a minimum of one athletic event.
Question: How does a student regain eligibility?
Answer: The student may regain eligibility by providing the coach and athletic director with proof that he has raised the failing grade to a passing grade with a signed progress report from the teacher. The student must still sit out a minimum of one athletic competition.
